Should I continue with my monthly meetings?
Monday, 11 October 2004
On the first Saturday morning of every month over this last year I have been at the Milson Community Centre so people could drop in for a chat. I have always had a lot of the information which is normally available at the Customer Services Centre, plus copies of council plans and any consultation documents.
While some mornings have been busy, with a number of people calling in to talk with me, a number of days have seen no visitors at all.
Now, the difficulty for me is that I don’t know whether residents are interested in these sessions continuing. I spend $120 each month on advertising, provide tea and biscuits, and sit at the centre for 2 1/2 hours waiting for people to turn up. I don’t mind doing this if it means residents have easy access to a councillor and want to discuss issues or ask for assistance, however, so few have called in that I wonder if I should continue.
So, I seek your opinions. Should I continue my monthly sessions or should I not? Please use the contact page to let me know what you think. Thank you.
UPDATE: There has been very little feedback on this to date. Yet, during the fora which were held in each ward recently a comment that was frequently repeated was that people needed more access to council and councillors. I will start up the Saturday sessions again in the New Year, but only if there is an indication that people actually want this.
In the meantime, I have added another way for you to contact me. I have set up an online chat account. For those who use Yahoo! chat, you can now contact me by adding pntalk to your contacts list.
