Turitea Update
Friday, 6 October 2006
Last week I was asked why I had not written anything about the proposed change of purpose of the Turitea Reserve and proposed amendments to the Turitea Reserve Management Plan. Well, I wrote about the submissions and hearings in my post of 15th September. I can update you now on things that are a matter of public record, but that is all I am able to do.
On October 18th, the Infrastructure Wellbeing Committee meets to deliberate and make our recommendation to Council. Next week, councillors will be having a workshop to explore the issues raised in both the written and oral submissions. Cr Peter Claridge is quoted in the Standard tonight as saying that representatives of Mighty River will be in attendance at this workshop (which is not open to the public), however, this is incorrect. It is exclusively a council workshop. The Infrastructure Wellbeing Committee meeting on 18th is, of course, a public meeting and everyone is welcome to attend. Recommendations from that meeting will then go forward to a full Council meeting where they will either be passed, not passed, or amended. At both of those meetings, I will be making sure my name is recorded so you have evidence of how I cast my votes.
