Local Initiatives Funding now available

Does your organisation want to develop a project that has the potential to contribute to the City Council’s community outcomes and its Community Development Plan?

Or perhaps you have an idea for developing a new and unique community group? Then the Local Initiatives Fund may be able to assist.

Community outcomes are defined as “things that are important to people” and mean;

• People have lots of fun things to do
• Businesses grow here and people have plenty of job opportunities
• Palmerston North is attractive, clean and green
• The community is supportive and people and organisations work together
• People have lots of learning opportunities.

In the past Local Initiatives Funding (LIF) has assisted projects with their start up costs, for example, the Project Hope Foundation; Manawatu Down Syndrome Association activity group; Methodist Social Services ‘Skills for managing anger’; Youth Offending Team ‘Rock On’ joint truancy initiative.

The Council’s Project Coordinator, Rhiannon Malley, says the funding initiative is particularly valuable as it can assist with new and unique activities and initiatives that make a real difference in the community.

Applications for the annual $25,000 fund, which is available to non profitable groups and organisations, open on September 1 and closes on September 28, 4pm.

Applications and guidelines are available from www.pncc.govt.nz, from Council’s Customer Service Centre or by ringing 356-8199.Please consult the LIF criteria to find out which activities, organisations and items can be considered for funding.
