Adding Twitter Status to Mambo

Have you ever wondered how to get your Twitter status showing on your Mambo CMS web site? Mambo already has the tools built in that make it easy to add your Twitter, Facebook, Friendfeed, or other social networking feeds. Adding your latest Twitter status updates is as easy as creating a new site module and assigning it to a template position.

Here's how to add Twitter to Mambo:

  • Copy the link of the RSS Feed you want to display on your site.
To get the Twitter feed just go to your Twitter page and look for the RSS image.
Copy the link location for "RSS feed of <username> updates".
  • Log in to your Mambo administrator backend.
  • On the Top Horizontal Menu go to Modules, Then click Site Modules.
  • Next click the New Button on the right side near the top.
  • Give the module a title - in this example, I use a title of "Latest Tweets".
  • Choose whether to Publish the title or not.
  • Assign the module a position.
You need to assign the module to an available module position in your template.
  • Assign an Access Level (usually Public).
  • Publish the module.
  • Paste the RSS feed url into the RSS URL field.
  • Choose whether to show the RSS Feed title (usually No)
  • Choose whether to show the RSS Feed description - keep this off for social network feeds as many will simply duplicate the content of the feed.
  • Choose whether to allow images to be shown in the Feed
  • Choose how many items to show from the Feed.
  • Set the description or intro text of each item of the Feed to No.
  • Choose whether to limit the number of words displayed in each description of the Feed
  • Enable the cache to prevent calls to the Twitter API on every page load (which could get your site blacklisted).
  • On the right side of the page, select what pages you want to the module to be displayed on.
  • Click Save at the top right to finish.

Using this method you can display your updates from any social networking sites that provide feeds.

Next week I will show you how you can add more Twitter goodness to Mambo so make sure you come back again for Mambo Monday.
