As a representative of the community, it is important to keep our "ears to the ground" and the interaction with many, many members of the public, community groups, businesses, and other organisations is very enriching. We get to learn so much more about our community and it is very rewarding when our actions make a difference. Being part of making the right decisions is satisfying. Being able to resolve an issue for ratepayers is too.
I stood for election because I have the personal and professional skills, and expertise, to do a good job in service to our city. I have remained independent and have not compromised my personal standards and ethics. There have been council decisions along the way that I have not agreed with, but, hey! that's democracy for you. I have, at all times, acted responsibly, kept an open mind, and made informed decisions based on representing the community and the best interests of the city. So, what's it like being a Councillor then Lynne? It is demanding, time-consuming, largely thankless, yet very, very rewarding.
To those of you who voted for me in the Papaioea by-election, thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you. It has been a privilege to work for you. I will be seeking re-election and I hope you will again permit me to represent you.
