Every now and then something happens within the open source projects I work with that cause me a lot of excitement. If you are a regular reader you will know that I am passionate about developing with, hacking, and using the Mambo open source content management system. In the past year, Mambo has gone from strength to strength but there is still a lot of room for improvement. The current core development team seem resistant to community input and tend to be dismissive of the skills that exist outside of their elite team. Changes the community have collectively asked for over some time have been pretty much ignored. This is set to change!
Mambo has been selected as a mentoring project for the Google Summer of Code program (PDF).
Project ideas :
- XHTML/Accessibility Compilance project
- A VFS (virtual file system) library
- Improved media manager/file explorer
- An AJAX library
- A rich administration application
- Core improvements
Applications are being taken now. More information can be found on the Mambo forums here: http://forum.mamboserver.com/showthread.php?t=46587
