The number of web sites is increasing rapidly and it seems that search engines are changing their algorithms to take the age of domain names into account. So far, all I have is my unscientific hunch and no quantitative data to back it up. BUT, from what I am seeing it appears that the age of a domain name is making a difference to search engine rankings.
From tracking search engine results of my client's web sites, it appears that those domains that are older are doing better in rankings, even where the domain has never been used on the web before. It also appears that registering a domain for two or more years gives a slight edge over new domains that are registered for just one year.
So, for what its worth, I now recommend that new domains are registered for a minimum of two years. I guess time will tell whether my hunch is right or not!
