Fixing Fatal Error in WordPress 2.7.1 Auto Upgrade

If you have been running the WP Automatic Upgrade plugin on your site and you are running WP2.7, you will get a conflict when you try to run the WordPress auto update. The error will look something like this:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare pclziputilpathreduction() (previously declared in /home/username/public_html/site/public/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/lib/pclzip.lib.php:5421) in /home/username/public_html/site/public/wp-admin/includes/class-pclzip.php on line 5498

Now that WordPress has its own, inbuilt auto update feature the plugin is no longer needed. Clicking on upgrade within WP2.7 will fire up both the inbuilt upgrade process AND the plugin, which results in this error message.

Deactivate and delete the WPAU plugin then run your WordPress upgrade again.
