Visualisation of Web Design with Google's Browser Size

Google Labs has just launched a new tool, called Browser Size. This online tool provides a contour visualisation of screen size data generated from the browser sizes used by people visiting Google.com. Browser Size shows you what portion of users can see a given spot on the screen, without scrolling, by overlaying this visualisation onto a web page

“Browser Size” is a bit of a misnomer as it doesn't show screen resolution. The overlay displays the area available to the browser without the title bar, toolbars, status bars, etc., thereby giving a true representation of how much content can be seen.

Although the visualisation is generated from the screen sizes of people who visit Google, which may be an entirely different segment of Internet users to those who visit your site, the tool is a useful addition to the online tools available to web designers and UI developers, whether used to test sites under development or to demonstrate to management why a site redesign may be a good idea.

Test your own site out with Browser Size. Just go to the Browser Size page, and enter your URL to see how Google.com visitors would view your site.
