I received this e-mail from the Secretary of the Manawatu Scottish Society Pipe Band.
I'm delighted to share that the Band realised its dream of a top ten placing at the World Pipe Band Championships, Glasgow Green on Saturday by being placed tenth. In Pipe Band terms this is a significant improvement on their very creditable 13th placing in 2003. I'm very conscious that as the only Grade One New Zealand representative at the Worlds, our City and Region can regard this achievement with considerable pride. Something we can all share.Secretary,Manawatu Scottish Society Pipe Band
This is an outstanding result and the band deserves hearty congratulations.
After they return from Scotland they will no doubt turn their thoughts to the next World Championship and I hope this city will get right behind them with support to ensure they compete there again.
In these bleak days of increasing petrol prices and a winter that seems to want to stick around, I thought you might like to see some really good news for a change
