Those of you who have been following the sad story of my borked computer have probably noticed by now that I have not yet updated that post to say that I am back. I've now had nearly seven weeks without a working PC, which is causing no end of problems. My ability to post to my blog is extremely limited and my contributions to the open source projects I work with have been severely curtailed.
Bottom line is - I cannot replace my computer without your help!
If you find this site useful, or you value my work with Mambo and WordPress, please consider making a donation towards the cost of replacing my computer.
I need to raise US$1500 to replace my fried PC and monitor. If you can help, it would be very much appreciated.
By way of saying thank you, every person who donates US$200 or more will be offered the opportunity to download a custom Mambo template or WordPress theme of your choice. These will not be available (naturally enough) until I have my computer and am able to create them. I will create a selection of themes, and once you have chosen yours it will be removed from the offer, so that your template/theme will be unique to you alone.
All donors will be acknowledged on my site and will have my deepest thanks. Please consider helping me so that I can continue to contribute to open source development. Thank You!

Lynne, will all due respect, I have two questions:
1. A new PC does not cost $1500. Even a high end PC can be bought for less than this. Would you mind saying please why you need $1500?
2. Why do you need a new monitor? The components of your PC have overheated and broken down. Did this also affect your monitor?
@johnbillion: In New Zealand its just not possible to get a decent PC for less than this. The average price for something with enough RAM and hard drive for the work I do is in the vicinity of NZ$2500. To replace what I lost with something that has the same specification (which I am not trying to do as I cannot afford this) was priced out at NZ$2900. Insurance didn't cover this.
The monitor needs replacing because the same power zap that fried the computer burned out the power components of my monitor. The monitor was killed immediately. I'm able to use an old monitor, which has dead areas but is ok for an emergency but that's not practical for design or development work.
To date, donations total $75, which is much appreciated. I don't like asking for help but had no other option.
Hi Lynne,
I think a person at your status could buy a computer. Why ask for a donation?
@FelJun: My status? Hmmm...
I only ask for donations because I cannot afford to buy a new computer without help. It's embarrassing to ask for help but the work I do, and help I give, is free. Free doesn't bring in any money unfortunately (I'm open to ideas for getting sponsorship if anyone has some tips to share).
Hi,
Do you still need donations as of today? I just saw this.
@Fred: Sorry about the delay in responding (caused by not being able to get onto my blog until the PC issue was sorted). I have built my new PC but its not yet complete. The item with highest priority is RAM so any donations that will help me get enough RAM on board would be very, very welcome.
